Typical July weather this week across the commonwealth

Look for warm and humid condition with daily storm chances

After wrapping up the holiday weekend with a few pop-up storms Sunday afternoon, things remained unsettled to start the new week. A frontal boundary has sagged into the Ohio Valley, bringing scattered storm chances back to Central and Eastern Kentucky. Despite the storm activity, we still saw plenty of sunshine Monday, allowing highs to reach the upper 80s—right on par for early July.

A Daily Dose of Storms Ahead

As we head into Tuesday, that same frontal boundary will remain parked across the region. Expect another round of scattered showers and storms, especially during the afternoon and early evening. Highs will once again top out in the upper 80s with plenty of humid air in place. While widespread severe weather is not expected, any storms that do develop could dump heavy rain in a short amount of time and produce some gusty winds. Rinse and Repeat Pattern Continues

Wednesday through Friday looks like a classic summertime “copy and paste” setup. The air mass stays warm and humid, and daily thunderstorm chances remain in play. Most of the action will be fueled by the daytime heat, so expect storms to bubble up in the afternoon and gradually fade by night. No day looks like a total washout, and we’ll still see some sun in between the storms. Highs will stay steady in the mid to upper 80s, and nights will remain muggy with lows in the low 70s.

Watching the Weekend

Heading into the weekend, another boundary may drop in from the northwest, continuing the pattern of scattered showers and storms. While it’s not time to cancel outdoor plans, having a backup option or umbrella close by won’t be a bad idea. Temperatures stay fairly consistent, with highs in the upper 80s and dew points making it feel every bit like mid-July.
