Hot and dry weather conditions through most of the holiday weekend
Humidity levels will slowly increase over the next few days
Independence Day delivered some truly fantastic weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Sunshine was abundant, highs topped out in the upper 80s and low 90s, and—despite the heat—it felt comfortable thanks to lower humidity levels. Evening fireworks displays around the region should go off without a hitch under clear and calm skies, wrapping up a near-perfect holiday.
Staying Hot Through the Weekend
As we move into the weekend, summer heat builds back in. Afternoon highs on Saturday will climb into the low to mid-90s, and even though humidity remains manageable, it’s still important to take care outdoors—hydrate, apply sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade if you’re spending time outside. Saturday looks to stay dry and sunny, ideal for any extended holiday plans.
Humidity Creeps Back In Sunday
By Sunday, you’ll start to notice a bit more mugginess in the air as winds shift from the south and moisture begins to return. Highs will again reach the low 90s, and while heat index values should stay just shy of 100°, it’ll feel noticeably more humid. We may also see a stray pop-up storm late in the day, mainly in the Bluegrass region and areas west, as a cold front begins to approach from the northwest.
More Unsettled Weather Next Week
The upcoming workweek looks more active. That same cold front will stall out across the Ohio Valley, setting up a stretch of scattered showers and thunderstorms from Monday through at least midweek. While we’re not expecting widespread severe weather, a few stronger storms with gusty winds and heavy downpours are possible, especially with high moisture content in the air. Highs will back off slightly into the upper 80s, but the humidity will hang on, making for a sticky and stormy setup through the end of the week.
