Fantastic summer weather for Independence Day

Mother Nature should cooperate with sunshine and dry weather for the 4th of July

Thursday brought us another fantastic summer day across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Sunshine ruled the skies, temperatures topped out in the upper 80s, and—best of all—humidity stayed in check. It was one of those rare early July days where you could actually enjoy being outside without instantly breaking a sweat. And if you liked today, you’re going to love what’s coming for the 4th of July.

Fireworks Forecast: Picture Perfect for the Fourth
Mother Nature is giving us a true gift for Independence Day. High pressure remains firmly in control, meaning Friday will feature mostly sunny skies, highs in the low 90s, and dry conditions all day and evening—ideal for fireworks displays, parades, cookouts, or whatever your holiday plans may include. While humidity won’t be too oppressive, it will be hot, so make sure to stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and find shade when you can, especially during the heat of the afternoon.

Holiday Weekend Heats Up
The beautiful stretch of weather continues into Saturday and Sunday, though the humidity will start to sneak back in. Afternoon highs will remain in the low 90s, and with southerly winds bringing in more moisture, it will start to feel a bit more muggy, especially by Sunday. Still, no washouts expected, so don’t hesitate to enjoy the outdoors—just be sure to keep an eye on the sky, as an isolated pop-up storm isn’t out of the question late in the weekend.

Storm Chances Return to Start the New Week
A cold front will approach the region on Monday, bringing a better chance for scattered showers and storms. While we’re not expecting severe weather, localized downpours and lightning will be possible. The front looks to stall out over the region into midweek, so daily storm chances will linger through at least Wednesday. On the bright side, this front will also bring some slightly cooler temperatures and more comfortable air behind it.
