LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After a round of strong winds overnight, gusty conditions will continue through your Wednesday as colder air settles into the region. A Wind Advisory remains in effect through 7 PM this evening as wind gusts of 40-50 mph remain possible, especially through the late morning and afternoon hours. These strong winds will be accompanied by a sharp temperature drop—morning temperatures in the 50s will fall steadily throughout the day, dipping into the low 40s and upper 30s by late afternoon. Factor in the wind, and it will feel much colder, with wind chills making it feel like the 20s by evening.
In addition to the wind, scattered showers will move through the area during the day. As temperatures drop, expect a transition from rain to snow showers by this evening. While accumulations are expected to remain minimal, visibility could be reduced at times due to bursts of heavier snow.
For the higher elevations of Harlan and Letcher counties, a Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect later today and last through Thursday morning. Light snow accumulations of 1-2 inches are possible above 2,500 feet, with a dusting to an inch possible between 1,500-2,500 feet. Lower elevations will likely see little to no accumulation.
Looking Ahead
Thursday will be cold and breezy, with highs struggling to reach the low-to-mid 40s. Winds will still gust up to 20-25 mph, keeping wind chills in the 30s for much of the day. Clouds will gradually clear, allowing for some sunshine by the afternoon.
A weak system will bring a few isolated rain showers Friday night into early Saturday, though little impact is expected. After that, a warming trend kicks in, with dry and pleasant weather expected Sunday through early next week. By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will climb into the 60s and 70s, bringing a taste of spring!
And don’t forget—Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend! Be sure to set your clocks forward one hour before heading to bed Saturday night.
