Delightful Labor Day weather gives way to more typical early September conditions this week
We'll enjoy a nice break from any heat and humidity with another touch of fall on the horizon
It may not have started very well with all the scattered storms and lightning issues for outdoor activities on Saturday but the long holiday weekend wrapped up in style on Monday across Central and Eastern Kentucky. With a frontal boundary well to our south and cool high pressure to the north pushing in dry and pleasant air on the heels of a breezy northeast wind, conditions were about perfect for Labor Day to be out and about with lots of sunshine and comfortable highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. This overall quiet pattern will continue in the coming days with no big heat and humidity to speak of.
As folks get back in the post holiday routine with a return to work and school on Tuesday expect very nice temperatures out the door in the morning with readings starting out in the low to mid-50s. It should be another delightful early September day with more sunshine and afternoon highs a few degrees warmer into the low-80s across the board. There may be an inverted trough passing by to our south late Tuesday and into Tuesday night which could throw some scattered cloudiness our way especially across our Southern Kentucky counties but high pressure should be strong enough to hold any shower chances at bay especially given the dry air at the surface. Our “Muggy-cast” should very low humidity until we start to see a slight increase later in the week as the next cold front approaches.
Speaking of that cold front, it will make a run for the Ohio Valley later this week bring a return chance for a few isolated showers/storms. However it appears it won’t arrive until Friday so we should be mainly dry through the mid and late week with just a few isolated storms possible late Thursday. Otherwise it will remain dry and a touch warmer with afternoon highs into the mid-80s through Thursday before we drop off a few degrees Friday with a slightly better chance of showers and storms in the area.
Right now this Saturday doesn’t look like a repeat of this past weekend relative to Kentucky’s SEC opener against South Carolina at Kroger Field on Saturday afternoon. The front should be clearing the area so just a few isolated showers will be possible as temperatures drop back into the mid-70s for afternoon highs. Hopefully with a 3:30pm kickoff (which you can see the game right here on ABC 36) it will be mainly dry and pretty comfortable for an afternoon football game in early September. This front will be the leading edge of yet another early preview of the fall season that will take over the area to end the weekend and carry over into early next week. Early morning lows Sunday and Monday should be in the upper 40s with afternoon highs only reaching the low to mid-70s! It should feel really nice, especially given the fact that we can see some pretty hot temperatures deep into September so we’ll take the break while we can get it. We’ll keep you posted on the timing of the front and any impact it could possibly have relative to the Cats game and other outdoor plans Saturday.
