Unseasonably mild air for Election Day and beyond

We could actually break some record highs by Wednesday with temperatures surging into the upper 70s.

It was a really nice start to the week here in Central and Eastern Kentucky Monday with a mix of clouds and sunshine along with some nice temperatures. After starting out a bit cool early, a strong southwest wind kicked in during the afternoon with wind gusts 25 to 30 miles per hour. This helped to push afternoon highs into the low and mid-70s, a solid 10 degrees plus above average for this time of the year.

Heading into Election Day expect a few more clouds around as a weak boundary to our north slides by just north of the Ohio River. This will produce a little more in the way of cloud cover which will slow our warm-up a bit but we should still see afternoon highs reach the low 70s in most locations. It should be mainly dry around the area other than a spotty sprinkle or two so weather shouldn’t be an issue at all, especially given the mild temperatures. Make sure to get out there and vote!

Tg Futurecast With Temperature

Our best day of the week…and throughout the 7 day for that matter should be Wednesday as the boundary pulls well to the north as a warm front. This will allow for more sunshine and a strong southwest wind which will push unseasonably warm temperatures into the commonwealth. Our record high here in Lexington is 77 degrees set just 3 years ago in 2020 and at this point we could touch 80 degrees in the city so the record is in jeopardy. The frontal boundary will move through into Thursday with slightly cooler air and some beneficial showers given how dry it has been of late.

While rainfall totals should mainly be a half inch or less, a few spots could get a little more than that down south as the showers linger into Friday. The eastern mountains are beginning to see fall wildfires break out so we could really use some rain and we should get it out of the late week system. Temperatures will drop back to below average with highs in the mid-50s and dry conditions through the upcoming weekend.
