A chilly start to November across Central and Eastern Kentucky

Luckily the unseasonably cold air won't hang around very long with milder days ahead

It was a cold and frosty start to November across Central and Eastern Kentucky Wednesday as we saw our coldest morning of the fall so far. The growing season came to a quick end as readings dipped into the mid to upper 20s in most spots with a few locations down into the low 20s. With high pressure in control, we enjoy a pretty afternoon following some morning cloudiness but the sunshine didn’t do much to moderate temperatures as afternoon highs struggled to reach the low 40s to mid-40s so it felt more like the beginning of December instead of November.

Get set for another cold night across the commonwealth with mainly clear skies and light winds heading into Wednesday morning, which will allow temperatures to drop back into the mid to upper 20s for overnight lows. Expect another day with plentiful sunshine along with winds shifting to the south, which should help nudge afternoon highs back into the low and mid-50s.

Tg Futurecast With Temperature

The upward trend in our temperatures will continue Friday and into the upcoming weekend as high pressure settles over the Carolinas. Afternoon highs should reach the low to mid-60s Friday and Saturday so our dry and pleasant stretch of weather will roll on. There will be a weak front to our north for the second half of the weekend, which may be close enough to produce an isolated shower on Sunday but most locations should remain dry.

It looks unseasonably mild to kick off next week as temperatures make a run at the 70 degree mark on Monday. This will be ahead of our next storm system that will really begin to impact the area just in time for Election Day. The model data is now showing the front dropping into the area, putting on the brakes and camping out for a few days. This will result in several rounds of rain (which is still needed) next Tuesday and Wednesday  but at least we shouldn’t see a significant push of cooler air returning thanks to the stationary front snaking its way through the Ohio Valley.
