WWII Veteran in Bourbon County finally awarded medals

BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- It took almost 70 years. But a Bourbon County man is finally getting some long-overdue recognition for his service and sacrifice during World War II.

95-year-old Hubert D. Jasper of Paris now has a Bronze Star Medal, French Legion of Honor Medal, European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Silver Service Star, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, Combat Infantryman Badge, Honorable Service Lapel Button-World War II and Belgian Fourragere. Jasper received the medals today during a formal awards ceremony in Nicholasville.

Jasper fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was at Normandy. He served from 1943 to 1945. He says even 70 years later, he remembers what he was fighting for. "Freedom. Freedom of speech and everything that we have…It was mighty good to get back on U.S. soil after the war," says Jasper.
