UPDATE: Woodford Reserve doubling production in 25th year

UPDATE: OCTOBER 10, 2021 6 P.M.

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – One of the things Kentucky is known for is making the best bourbon in the world and Woodford Reserve wants more of the world to enjoy its product as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Master distiller Chris Morris says this milestone has led him to reflect on how far Woodford Reserve has come in the past quarter century.

“It’s still too hard to imagine after 25 years, we’ve gone from obscurity to being one of the top bourbons in the world,” says Morris. “I mean I still pinch myself and it’s a dream come true.”

Wodford Reserve is in the process of doubling its production. The distillery says it will go from 8 fermenters to 16 and the iconic copper stills will expand from 3 to 6. Woodford Reserve says the expansion will be underway for the next 6 to 9 months, but come next summer, the addition should be complete. Now, what does this mean for the taste of Woodford Reserve? Will it maintain the classic flavor people love?

“We’re taking tremendous care to make sure we protect the brand and make sure we protect the product, measuring things such as specific as the amount of surface area of copper to make sure it maintains all of the characteristics that we’ve got today,” says Josh Anderson, general manager, group site director. “We’re very confident that the quality will match and exceed exactly what we have today.”

The distillery says bourbon consumption is only growing and while people in Australia and the UK can find some of Kentucky’s bourbon, it hopes to soon be available in even more countries.

“I’m very proud of the role Woodford Reserve has helped play in the resurgence of Kentucky bourbon around the the world,” says Morris. “We have been a major influencer in consumers finding out how great Kentucky bourbon is and we’re so glad to have helped the industry get back to where it’s long belonged.”

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ/Press Release) – Woodford Reserve®, the world’s top-selling super-premium American whiskey,  is celebrating 25 years.

To mark the historic day and look towards the future, Master Distiller Chris Morris and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall laid down a new whiskey Monday, and this week the distillery will host a series of commemorative experiences open to the public.

“We are planning for the future as we see no signs that the bourbon boom is slowing down,”  Morris said. “More and more consumers worldwide are discovering one of the greatest exports from Kentucky — bourbon. And they are especially enjoying Woodford Reserve.”

Through the month of October, customers will be able to participate in special tastings, enjoy bespoke cocktails and discover unique products for sale at the Gift Shop. On Friday, October 15 from 2-4:30 p.m., Master Distiller Chris Morris and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall will sign bottles for customers.

Earlier this year, Woodford Reserve announced the doubling of its capacity, increasing its three iconic copper pot stills to six stills. A new building will house utilities and storage space, clearing the way for new fermenters in the current distillery building.

Additional grain and barrel unloading areas as well as a training center for employees are also being planned.

To conserve this National Historic Landmark, where many whiskey innovations occurred in the 1800s and 1900s, Woodford Reserve collaborated with historic preservation leaders in Frankfort and Washington so the design of this latest building will complement the older structures.

Woodford Reserve sits on Kentucky’s oldest distilling site where Elijah Pepper began crafting whiskey in 1812. Former CEO Owsley Brown II had a vision in the mid-1990s – to create a homeplace where guests could learn the history of bourbon while sipping on the world’s finest bourbon.

“The words of Owsley Brown II still hold true today,” MCall said. “Woodford Reserve is a labor of love for everyone involved. A love of this place, a love of history and a love of making superb whiskey.”

Brown-Forman renovated the historic distillery and – in 1996 – opened it to the public for tours. Today, Woodford Reserve continues the innovative spirit – the global brand helped elevate American Whiskey as a category worldwide when it partnered with renowned fine crystal producer Baccarat, in France, to create the Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition.

The Woodford Reserve family of brands now includes five permanent expressions — bourbon, rye, double oaked, malt and wheat — along with their beloved limited edition expressions, including the Master’s Collection and the very highly sought after Double Double Oaked with its cult following.
