Woodford Humane Society asking for donations after dryer stops working

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Woodford Humane Society is reaching out for help replacing a vital piece of equipment.

On Friday, September 28, the organization’s industrial dryer failed; since then, staff have been struggling to make do as laundry piles up. A replacement dryer is on its way, but the $5,278 price tag is steep for a small non-profit organization on a tight budget – especially after a year that has already seen an unusually high number of repair bills, including $10,000 in damage after July’s storms.

Marketing Director Beth Oleson says the price tag may seem steep, but Woodford Humane is not able to use a regular home washer and dryer set. “We care for 100-200 animals every day and generate an enormous amount of very dirty laundry. We’ve tried to get by with home laundry machines in the past, but they literally burn up within a week and create a fire hazard. An industrial dryer is an investment, but it’s a necessary one.”

About half of the cost has been raised so far. Executive Director Katie Hoffman they have raised just over $2,000.

Red State BBQ in Lexington has declared Wednesday, October 3 “Support Woodford Humane Society” day, pledging to donate 10% of all sales for the day to help with the dryer replacement.

VCA Woodford Boarding and Grooming in Versailles has also offered the use of their laundry facilities while Woodford Humane awaits the arrival of their replacement dryer, helping Woodford Humane keep operating in the interim.

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, and can be made online at woodfordhumane.org, over the phone at 859.873.5491, or mailed to Woodford Humane Society, PO Box 44, Versailles, KY 40383. You can also donate on Woodford Humane Society’s Facebook page.
