Woodford Humane Society

The Woodford Humane society is a non-profit animal adoption center in Versailles, Kentucky. We care for the homeless and unwanted animals in Woodford county, surrounding counties, as well as animals from other states. We have welcomed thousands of animals since 1975 and strive to find good, loving homes for all of them. A careful screening process helps us match the right animals to the right adoptive homes.
With no government funding, we are completely dependent on private contributions to continue to provide care to 1,200 animals each year. Since 2007, we have placed 92% of our animals into their forever homes! The national average is around 25%.
At any given time, we are home to over 200 animals available for adoption. Adoption counselors are on staff to assist with the selection of a new pet. We maintain a “wish book” for people seeking a particular breed and let them know when a match has been made.
Adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, a home again microchip, vaccinations and deworming, feline leukemia and fiv screening for cats, heartworm screening for dogs, rabies vaccination, a free veterinary checkup and dog training dvd.
We provide counseling and offer advice for topics such as obedience training, housebreaking, helping your pet adapt to a new home and other behavioral issues.
Our open-door policy means that we take in animals in need, regardless of their temperament, health, age or breed as long as we have the room to accommodate them. All of our animals are evaluated based on health, known history and temperament before being placed for adoption. We get to know our animals well and provide the enrichment and the playtime they need to stay happy.
Adoptable animals are held for as long as health, behavior and space permit. We never set a time limit for adoptable animals to find a new home — in fact, many animals have remained here a year or more while awaiting their new home cageless cat rooms and spacious play yards for our dogs keep our pets happy while they await adoption. Owner-surrendered animals are by appointment. This ensures that we have available space and reduces stress for everyone. For information about surrendering your pet, please click here.
