Woman and her unborn child die after shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A shooting in Lexington has left a woman and her unborn baby dead.

The Fayette County Coroner says 22-year-old Maryiah Coleman, who was 8-months pregnant, was pronounced dead at the University of Kentucky Medical Center at 11:38 p.m. Wednesday.

She was rushed there after being shot outside the Matador North Apartments at 1053 Winburn Drive.

The coroner says doctors tried to save the life of her unborn son but could not.

Police say they found Coleman suffering from a gunshot wound after being called to Winburn Drive just before 11 p.m. Wednesday to a report of shots fired.

Investigators say they are getting conflicting information from witnesses on what happened.

They were initially told that Coleman was out walking her dog, when she was shot during a robbery attempt on another person.

Police say that alleged victims was taken down to police headquarters and interviewed.

Funeral arrangements for Coleman and her baby are pending.

A Gofundme account has been set up to offset funeral expenses for the family.  Interested donors can click here.
