Police: Drugs and alcohol suspected in deadly head-on crash

DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Danville Police say drugs and alcohol are suspected factors in a deadly crash that left one person dead, two injured and a Lexington man with pending criminal charges.

Investigators say 42-year old Joseph Kelly, of Lexington, was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on Perryville Road just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup, whose name wasn’t immediately released, died at the scene, according to investigators.  A passenger in the truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to police.

Kelly was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville for treatment of his injuries.  Police say the extent of Kelly’s injuries weren’t immediately known.

Danville Police are asking any witnesses to the collision to call the department at 859-238-1220 and ask to speak to the on-duty supervisor.
