Hit-and-run death ruled a homicide by coroner
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Police are investigating a deadly hit and run that Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn has ruled a homicide.The vistim, 48-year-old Eugenia Lynn Keens, was a “pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle,” Ginn said.
She died at 4:50 a.m., according to the coroner.
The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on Martha Court, which is located off Eastland Parkway not far from New Circle Road in east Lexington. The incident happened in the parking lot of Phoenix Apartments at 1586 Martha Court. Keens lived in the apartments.
Police say when officers got there, they found a female victim unresponsive in the parking lot.
Witnesses told police they saw a white, older model SUV leaving the scene.
Neighbors told WTVQ ABC 36 News the woman was trying to stop the vehicle from leaving because someone had stolen $40 from her. She was holding the steering wheel through an open window and the car drove off, dragging her, neighbors told WTVQ.
