Woman accused of assaulting school officials in Harlan County

CAWOOD, Ky. (WTVQ) – A woman is accused of being intoxicated and assaulting staff at an elementary school in Harlan County, including the superintendent and head of pupil personnel, according to WRIL Radio.

The report says 37-year old Teresa Wells, of Cawood, pinned the head custodian against the wall at Cawood Elementary School on Tuesday, and assaulted Superintendent Brent Roark and Director of Pupil Personnel, Brent Johnson.

The report, citing the arrest citation, says Wells was disorderly, screaming, cursing and “talking out of her head” during her arrest by deputies, who say she tried to run from the school.

Wells was charged with Assault 3rd degree (school employee or school volunteer), Public Intoxication (excluding alcohol), and Disorderly Conduct, according to the report.

She was held in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,000 cash bond, according to WRIL Radio.

The radio station reports this isn’t Wells’ first run-in with law enforcement.  The report says in September 2019, she was charged after allegedly stealing a school bus in Cawood.  The report says she was charged with DUI and other charges.
