Witnesses speak on the Casey County Fire

Casey County, Ky. (WTVQ) — Early Friday afternoon, Kentucky State Police released the names of the four victims killed in a fire in Casey County on Thursday.

State police say two adults and two children were killed.

This was home to Ariel Gordon, 29, Thomas Moss 39, and two kids.

“I just keep praying, wishing I would wake up,” said Grace Gordon.

But some nightmares, unfortunately, are real-life realities.

“I had built a small fire in the wood stove before I left, it was just a small one,” said Gordon. “And we went up to the store in liberty just to get some milk. Debbie calls me and she says ‘honey the house is on fire and we can’t get them out.’ by the time I got back here to the house all of them were gone. All of them are gone, it was horrible, I’m never going to get over it. Never.”

Grace Gordon says her daughter is Ariel. She says investigators told her that more wood was put on the fire after Grace left.

The fire happened off highway 70 and KY 837 in the Round Hill area, in Bethelridge.

One neighbor described what she saw after the fire had started.

“I saw the flames coming out of the kitchen and then when I got up front they were coming out the side window,” said Karen Emerson. “There was a guy, I don’t know his name, but he was trying to get in there and they wouldn’t let him go in there at all. When I got there these two windows had been busted out from the flames and the kids and their mom was still in there. We tried to get in the front, but we couldn’t get in.”

Gordon says she isn’t sure what the next step is.

“I don’t know now what we’ll do, where we’ll go, or anything. But you guys all know me and I’m never going to be the same without them.”
