Winter weather kicks off the week with snow and cold temperatures
Monday starts off snowy and frigid
Winter Weather Advisories across the Bluegrass remain in effect through the early afternoon. Snow will continue to fall, accumulating to a few tenths of an inch in most places, up to 0.5″ – 1.0″ in a few areas. Roadways may become slick in some spots, especially on bridges and overpasses. Wind will be gusty through the late morning, keeping the feels-like temperatures in the teens. Winds calm by the afternoon, and we will feel closer to our actual air temperatures, which will still only be near freezing.
The evening commute will see better conditions, but could still have minor impacts. Road temperatures will be cold and so slick spots will be able to remain.
Tuseday and Wednesday warm up
Tuesday morning, winds will shift out of the south and will be quite gusty. This will usher in warm, moist air. High temperatures on Tuesday will likely reach the low 40s. This warming trend continues Wednesday with temperatures in the upper 40s. However, a cold front will move through during the day. This will cause rain chances, looking to be widespread overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, becoming scattered by the afternoon. Wednesday night we’ll start to feel the affects of the cold front, with temperatures dropping back to below freezing. This means that any leftover rain may become sleet or snow.
Thursday stays active and cold
A disturbance in the atmosphere will move through on Thursday, continuing the snow chances. It looks to mainly be some light snow showers to only a few flurries. This means that we likely won’t see much in terms of accumulation. Changes in the forecast could still occur, so be sure to stay weather aware even as no major impacts are expected. Temperatures will drop back to the 30s and will likely stay there through the end of the week, even as we dry out on Friday. By next weekend, temperatures are trending cold and we could see highs as low as as 20 degrees below average.
