Winchester group raising money for veteran foot markers

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Winchester organization is encouraging the community to participate in a special project in honor of Memorial Day.

There are currently 38 bronze veteran foot markers at Clarmont Gardens Cemetery, located on US 60, in storage needing to be installed at veterans’ grave sites. The donation goal for all 38 markers to be installed this year is $8,550.

The Winchester Cemetery, who manages the installs for Clarmont, has agreed to provide the required marble and concrete at their cost and will provide the labor at no charge. In order for the cemetery to know how many pieces of marble to order, everything is needed by Memorial Day.

Citizens can help the project in a variety of ways. One is to sponsor the install for at least one veteran, costing $225. Super Shine Car Wash will participate in the fundraiser, so those who wash their vehicle this weekend can participate, as well as dropping off donations of any amount there throughout the week. Woody’s Sports Bar & Grill will also hold a fundraiser on Saturday, May 29 that patrons can be a part of.

The local Lady Veterans Connect is the charity sponsor for the project.

Anyone interested can write a check to Lady Veterans Connect, which is the organization’s preferred payment method. For these donations, either contact Joslyn Stanfield at 859-808-0100 or drop off the check at Super Shine Car Wash.

If community members want to pay with a credit card, those can be made through the Lady Veterans Connect website. Mrs. Stanfield says to please let her know ahead of time if making a donation this way in order to direct those funds to the installation project.

For any other questions, contact Mrs. Stanfield via call, text or stopping by Super Shine Car Wash.
