Whitesburg teenager killed in crash; semi driver injured

ISOM, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Whitesburg teenager was killed in a violent collision with a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning on Highway 15 in the Isom community of Letcher County, according to State Police.

Investigators say 19-year old Ethan D. Adams, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Highway 15 around 7:30 a.m. when the pickup crossed into the northbound lane, colliding with a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Johnny Caudill, of Whitesburg.

The semi overturned from the impact while Adams’ pickup came to rest in the southbound lane, according to KSP.

Investigators say Adams was pronounced dead at the scene.  The truck driver was airlifted to Pikeville Medical to be treated for his injuries.

Toxicology results are pending on both drivers, which is standard procedure in fatal accidents, according to State Police.

An autopsy on Adams is scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, according to investigators.
