Western Ky. teen shot by deputy after chase and crash

 (MADISONVILLE, KY.) – The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Madisonville, KY.

Deputies from the Hopkins County Sheriff Department attempted to stop a 2006 Toyota pickup truck, traveling on I-69 at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was driven by a 15 year old juvenile who attempted to flee and evade the Deputy. The offender exited I-69 at Exit 116 and lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and travel down an earth embankment. Preliminary investigation indicates that while the Deputy was attempting to apprehend the offender, the juvenile turned his truck toward the Deputy and accelerated.

The Deputy fired his department issued handgun, striking the juvenile driver.  The juvenile offender was transported by Medical Center Ambulance Service to Baptist Hospital in Madisonville for treatment of his injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition. The second juvenile passenger that was in the vehicle was not injured. Criminal charges against both juveniles are pending.

The Hopkins County Sheriff Department was assisted by the Kentucky State Police, Madisonville Police Department, Madisonville Fire Department and Medical Center Ambulance Service.
