UPDATE: 05/14/21
DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Millions of people watched 19-year-old Alyssa Wray perform on American Idol this year.
On Friday, a handful of those viewers from her hometown Perryville watched her take the stage in Danville.
While she didn’t win american idol, Wray was welcomed home victorious as a star in the eyes of her hometown.
This season, Wray took a leap of faith this year and took the stage on American Idol.
It was a feat she says surprised her.
“my first audition I was so nervous I actually cried that day to my mom my voice was feeling a little dry. I was all torn up I didn’t even think that I would get the golden ticket so the fact that I got the golden ticket and made it as far as I did is just insane to me,” explains Wray.
Fans and friends from her hometown say they weren’t surprised to see he go on to California and supported their small town star through and through.
“Seeing someone local that you’ve known and seen its amazing to see them actually see them do something and go far,” says Sarah Moran, a fan.
“I really liked how they put her last because last also means the best,” adds Cameron Bowles, a hometown friend.
Wray made it to the top 9 before her time on the show came to an end.
But her last performance on American Idol wouldn’t be her last period.
Wray was welcomed home during an outdoor homecoming concert on Friday.
There, she took to the stage again, but this time, as a Perryville pop star.
Friends from her home town like Bowles says it’s so exciting to see her chase her dream
“It’s crazy especially when they’re my friend. I’ve known her for three years and I’d say I’m like her biggest little fan,” says Bowles.
Even though the show is over, the curtain isn’t entirely closed for Wray.
She’s studying musical theater at Northern Kentucky University.
As long as she continues to follow her dream, her small town say they’ll be there cheering her on, from the audience or from the comfort of their homes.
