Weight limit reduced on Lewis, Bath county bridges

LEWIS/BATH COUNTIES, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has reduced the weight limit on bridges in Lewis and Bath counties to three tones.

In Lewis County, the change is at a low-water crossing on Simmons Road (CR 1250) over Cabin Creek. It comes as a public safety precaution following an engineering analysis.

The crossing is located on Simmons Road just south of Ray Lane near the road’s intersection with Ribolt Epworth Road.

Meanwhile, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has posted a three-ton weight limit at a culvert bridge on US 60 just west of Owingsville in Bath County.

The bridge is located on US 60 at Hurricane Creek (milepoint 4.2) just east of Mae Berryman Way.

During a statewide load-rating analysis of select steel culverts, Transportation Cabinet bridge preservation engineers determined the reduced weight limits were necessary due to insufficient supporting material above the culvert.

The Transportation Cabinet will work to repair the bridges as soon as possible. The three-ton weight limits will remain posted until repairs are made.
