Wednesday feels mild, but a cold front looms on the horizon

A lovely start to our Wednesday

After the cold temperatures that started the week, Wednesday is feeling delightful. Morning low temperatures are in the mid-40s for many of us. There is a light southwestern breeze bringing a slight wind chill, so the feels-like temperatures are in the low 40s to upper 30s. This means it is still a tad chilly outside, and you’ll want a coat or jacket. But you will likely be able to get away without the hat, gloves, and scarf.

We’re cloudy to start, and they’ll gradually clear throughout the afternoon. Those who see cloud cover for longer won’t see temperatures move much; they’ll stay in the upper 40s. Those who get more afternoon sunshine will see temperatures in the low 50s. Clouds will build back in overnight and temperatures will cool to the mid-40s.

A cold front brings a wet Thursday and a cold Friday

Thursday starts cloudy, breezy, and mild. Ahead of the cold front, isolated shower chances will begin to pop up near lunchtime. But we won’t see the front and our widespread rain chance until dinner time. As the front moves through, a line of showers and t-storms will sweep through the area. There is a level 1 severe risk present, but this is nothing to worry about. We may experience some isolated strong wind gusts, but no major impacts are expected. The only thing you may want to keep in mind is those Christmas decorations, as they could blow away if not tied down!

Behind the cold front, temperatures will quickly drop into the 30s. This may cause a few flurries on the back end of the rainfall, but this would be brief and would cause no accumulations or impacts. Friday starts cold in the 20s and will only see the 30s by the afternoon. We’ll be dry, though, and winds will be a bit calmer.

Mild temperatures quickly return by the weekend

Despite the cold Friday, Saturday will return to the 50s and will remain dry. Although high pressure begins to set up in the area, several atmospheric disturbances will move through, and these ‘clippers’ could bring us some unsettled weather to end the weekend and start the next week. This likely won’t cause any holiday travel impacts, as any precipitation that we get will be liquid rainfall. This is because temperatures are continuing to trend above average.
