Chlorine leak at Cynthiana water plant

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WTVQ) – People who live along the river bank in Cynthiana, from Ladish Road to AKellar Dam, were asked Thursday night to remain indoors and take shelter in the highest point of their homes, due to a chlorine leak at the Water Plant, according to emergency dispatchers.

A ‘Code Red’ was issued around 7:30 p.m., asking people in the affected area to shelter in place with their windows closed until the situation was deemed safe. The ‘Code Red’ was lifted around 10:30 p.m., according to emergency officials. There were no reports of any injuries or illnesses, according to officials.

The plant is at the corner of Ladish Road and Waterworks Road.

Emergency officials say the drinking water is safe to use.
