Warrants out for man accused of trying to steal motorcycle

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say investigators have identified a man caught on surveillance video trying to steal a motorcycle before crashing it into a building.

Police say 37-year old Christopher Stewart has active warrants for Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (two counts) and Theft by Unlawful Taking.

On June 14, 2017, police were called to Central Kentucky Motorsports on New Circle Road in Lexington regarding the attempted theft of a motorcycle.

Employees of the business told police a man, later identified as Stewart, tried to steal a red Suzuki motorcycle that belonged to a customer.

Investigators say Stewart crashed the motorcycle into the business, causing significant damage to the motorcycle and the exterior of the business.  Police say he took off in a pickup truck.

Through the course of the investigation along with information from the community, Stewart was identified as the suspect in the case.

He was already in jail in the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex on unrelated charges, according to Lexington Police.
