Warming up Wednesday and Thursday ahead of unsettled weekend weather

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! Beautiful conditions are on the way today with temperatures returning to the low 80s for most. It’s a “Go Day” as well! No weather concerns today outside of patchy dense morning fog. Once this fog wears off, it’s going to be a gorgeous rest of your day. Afternoon highs will be reaching the low 80s for most today.

It’s going to be even warmer on Thursday, with mid-to-upper 80s possible across the region. This will likely be the warmest day so far this year in Lexington. This warmth will lead to unsettled weather heading into Oaks Day on Friday and Derby Day on Saturday.

Rain chances return late Thursday night into Friday morning. We are expecting scattered rain chances around for Oaks Day, both here in Lexington and in Louisville. Rain chances will continue into Derby Day itself. Rain chances will be lower on Saturday. We are also expecting more breaks in the rain on Saturday compared to Friday as well.

This unsettled weather pattern continues to close out the weekend and into next week. Temperatures will remain warm with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s during that time period as well. The Climate Prediction Center is highlighting all of the southeastern US for above average temperatures through May 10th. Most of Kentucky can also expect near-to-above normal rainfall during that time period as well.
