Warming up on Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! We are going to be warming up once again today with temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 80s for most of the region. Skies will remain mostly sunny today as well leading to a peak UV Index of 10. There will be a bit of an increase in humidity today as well but it won’t be unbearable out there, nothing like we will be experiencing next week.
A weak cold front is set to move through the region on Friday. We will see an increase in humidity ahead of the front, which will help fuel an isolated shower and storm chance into the afternoon. Most areas will stay dry but don’t be caught off guard by a quick moving shower and storm during the afternoon and early evening. As the front passes, we will drop temperatures and humidity briefly for the day on Saturday.
Saturday actually looks really nice out there across the region before the high humidity and hot temperatures set to move next week. Afternoon highs on Saturday will reach the mid-80s for most. Dewpoints will be low thanks to drier air behind Friday’s cold front. This will keep conditions feeling comfortable despite temperatures in the mid-80s.
Heat and humidity builds on Father’s Day. Many areas will climbing into the low-90s. A few mid-90s can’t be ruled out because the air will see be a little on the drier end. Remember, drier air is easier to heat up than air with more moisture. However, that changes on Monday.
High humidity and hot temperatures can be expected on Monday. This will last through at least the middle of next week. Dewpoints will be closing into the “miserable” category on our “Muggy Meter”. This muggy air will be fueling pop-up showers and storms during the afternoon hours as well. There is still some noticeable differences in the forecast models regarding how hot it will be.
The GFS or American Model and the Canadian Model wants to bring more tropical moisture into the region. This scenario would increase humidity and lead to a very muggy feel. It would also lead to lower temperatures (upper 80s and low 90s) because of the increased moisture and rain chances. The European Model has been showing a different scenario. It shows a lack of the tropical moisture and drier conditions. This scenario would lead to widespread mid-90s conditions through the middle of next week.
Right now, we are keeping temperatures in the low 90s with isolated showers and storms during the afternoon and early evening through early next week. It will be very muggy regardless of the scenario, so you should be prepared to the high heat AND high humidity.
