LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Our warming trend rolls on to start the new workweek, with temperatures continuing to climb over the next few days before our next weather system arrives midweek. While we stay mostly dry in the short term, rain chances increase late Wednesday into early Thursday, followed by another drop in temperatures to close out the week.

Warming Up Through Midweek

Monday brings another step up in temperatures, with highs reaching the low to mid-50s across central and eastern Kentucky under mostly sunny skies. A southwest wind between 10-15 mph will help pump in milder air. By tonight, a weak system passing north and east of the region may spark a few light showers, mainly for areas from Lexington northward. Rainfall amounts will be minimal, and most will stay dry. Overnight lows will be milder than the past few nights, only dipping into the mid-to-upper 30s.

Tuesday features even warmer conditions, with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 50s, and some locations across southern Kentucky could break into the low 60s. Any lingering clouds from the weak overnight system will clear out, leaving us with a dry and pleasant afternoon.

Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of the week, with highs reaching into the 60s areawide. This is ahead of a cold front that will bring changes by Wednesday night. While much of the day stays dry, rain chances increase during the evening and overnight hours. Widespread rain showers will move in, and while an isolated rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out, this system is mainly expected to produce light-to-moderate rainfall.

Rain Moves In Wednesday Night, Temperatures Drop Thursday

Showers continue into early Thursday morning as the cold front swings through. Rainfall amounts will likely range between 0.1″ and 0.3″ for most, with locally higher amounts possible. The rain tapers off by midday, but colder air rushes in behind the front. Afternoon temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 40s, and some areas may remain in the low 40s all day.

There is a slight chance for lingering drizzle or upslope showers Thursday evening, especially in the southeastern mountains, as colder air moves in. Overnight lows will drop to around freezing, and some higher elevations could see a brief mix with snow, though no accumulations are expected.

Weekend Roller Coaster

Temperatures start cold Friday morning but quickly rebound into the 50s by the afternoon as southerly winds return. Saturday looks even warmer, with highs in the upper 50s to near 60 before another front arrives Sunday. This pattern of brief warm-ups followed by cooldowns will continue into early March.

Looking ahead, temperatures may once again surge into the 60s by early next week before a stronger system brings another round of rain and storms midweek.
