Warmer Wednesday ahead of gusty winds and rain on Thursday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

Happy Wednesday everyone. It’s a “Go Day” out there today with temperatures soaring into the mid-60s later this afternoon. Winds will increase a bit out of the south and southwest, but overall no weather concerns for your daytime hours today.

We are tracking rain and gusty winds returning to the forecast for your Thursday. A few light showers will be possible overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning over the northern half of Kentucky, but that won’t amount to much. The bulk of the rain will move through during the second of half of the day Thursday. A widespread half inch to an inch worth of rain is expected, with over an inch possible in the areas that experience the heaviest downpours. Wind gusts over 30-40 mph will be possible, especially during the midday on Thursday. There could be a few storms during the afternoon and evening but severe weather is not expected. A few instances of high water will be possible in the heaviest downpours. Low-lying and flood prone areas will be where this chance will be prevalent. This rain exits to the east Thursday night with just a few showers remaining for Friday in eastern Kentucky.

We are tracking brief shot of chilly air on Saturday. This won’t be as cold as last weekend, but highs in the upper 30s and low 40s will be likely. There is an isolated chance of a few showers and/or snow showers early in the day on Saturday. This won’t amount to much, but don’t let it catch you off guard.

This cooldown does not last long. An even bigger warm-up is likely early next week. Highs could be pushing the mid-to-upper 60s Monday and Tuesday. These Spring-like temperatures will lead to Spring-like storm chances, especially Tuesday into Wednesday. We are still a week out but this is best chance we’ve had so far this year of seeing storms.
