Warm and Muggy Finish to June, But Relief is on the Way
Scattered storms continue to bubble up through early week before a cold front brings cooler, drier air just in time for the Fourth.
Another Round of Heat, Humidity and Storms
The final days of June are wrapping up just as they’ve gone most of the month—warm, muggy, and unsettled. Sunday brought another dose of typical summertime weather across central and eastern Kentucky, with afternoon highs in the upper 80s to near 90 and enough moisture in the air to make it feel even warmer. A few spotty showers and storms popped up through the afternoon, but most of us managed to squeeze in plenty of dry time and sunshine.
Storm Chances Ramp Up Again Monday
As we head into Monday, a cold front dropping into the region will begin to stir the pot a bit more. After a quiet start to the day with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s, scattered showers and thunderstorms will begin firing during the afternoon and evening. These storms could bring locally heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning, so make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts—especially if you’ll be outdoors. The ABC 36 app is a great tool, and turning on lightning alerts can help you stay safe if storms are nearby.
Cold Front Clears the Air by Midweek
Tuesday brings one more round of showers and storms as the front finishes its sweep through. But behind it? Some good news. By Wednesday, dew points drop, humidity backs off, and it’ll actually feel comfortable again. Temperatures will still be summer-like, topping out in the upper 80s, but the air won’t feel as thick, and sunshine should dominate through midweek.
A Promising Forecast for Independence Day
Right now, the 4th of July forecast is looking very cooperative. Dry, mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 90s will be on tap—perfect for grilling, fireworks, or a day by the pool. While an isolated shower or storm could pop up in far northern areas, the majority of us should stay dry.
