UPDATE: VA in Lexington vaccinates more than 4,000 veterans

Update:  Jan. 19, 2021:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington VA Health Care System vaccinated more than 4,000 veterans 50 years old and older during its three-day COVID-19 Vaccine Walk-in Clinic Jan. 16-19, 2021, according to the VA.

The Walk-In Clinic allowed the Lexington VAHCS to reach Veterans who normally do not receive their healthcare through VA. Over the three days, the Lexington VA enrolled more 800 Veterans into the system.

“I am just so proud of my team,” said Gregory W. Goins, Lexington VA Health Care System director. “This was a huge undertaking, but one that needed to be done. They did not disappoint and veterans in our Central Kentucky community are not only very happy because of their hard work, but they are safer because of it.”

Veterans not only came from Kentucky to get the vaccine, but also from around the country, including Arizona, Texas, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.

The Lexington VA was one of VA’s 37 initial VA Medical Centers to receive the vaccine and administers the Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine. Veterans who received their first dose of the vaccine at the walk-in clinic were scheduled to return for the required second dose 21-days later.

The Lexington VAHCS follows VA’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan. VA’s ultimate goal is to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to all Veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated. As vaccine supplies increase, VA care teams will reach out to eligible Veterans to schedule vaccinations. There is no need to preregister or come to a facility to sign up.

Veterans can get up-to-date information and sign up to receive updates on VA’s COVID Vaccine webpage.
