Vote In Europe Could Affect Burley Tobacco Farmers In Kentucky

On Tuesday, the European Parliament, which represents 28-countries in the European Union, voted to ban the adding of flavorings to cigarettes.

The vote is significant because burley tobacco blends well with flavorings and without it, there is concern among burley tobacco farmers in Kentucky that the leaf won’t sell as well in Europe.

Kentucky sells an estimated 40-percent of its burley tobacco crop to Europe.
