Volunteers using talents to provide personal protective equipment

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Work converting Nutter Field House on the University of Kentucky campus into a 400-bed field hospital continues. It’s being done in case it’s needed if the coronavirus surge continues.

It’s supposed to be done in another 10 days.

Meanwhile, all over the Bluegrass people are using their talents to help in the fight against COVID-19.

A Facebook group is playing match maker by pairing groups in need of masks, with mask makers.

The group is called Kentucky Face Mask Warriors. On the group’s Facebook page, they have uploaded a sign-up document where people can share sewist info. Then in a separate spreadsheet, the sewist can see what requests have been made, and if they think they can fill any of those needs.

It’s part of a nationwide response as well by people looking to make a difference from their homes.

Nationally, Face Mask Warriors has supplied thousands of masks.

As for the Bluegrass branch, the group is now more than 500 people strong. And orders are literally being filled all day long.

With so many orders needing filled. the group is in serious need of donations and sewists.

Here is a link to the Facebook page if you think you may be able to help.
