Volunteers to build Habitat for Humanity home in the Davis Park neighborhood

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Volunteers from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and the Lexington Community Land Trust (LCLT) will be busy at 750 DeRoode St. on Saturday, Nov. 7, working on a Habitat for Humanity home in the Davis Park neighborhood.

The home is made possible through a partnership with Lexington Habitat for Humanity, LCLT, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), KYTC, and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG).

The LCLT was founded to create affordable housing for residents living in the Davis Bottom now known as Davis Park neighborhood. Construction on the Newtown Pike extension project would have displaced several low-income residents.  However, funding was made available in 2013 – 2014 to construct new housing units and infrastructure for the residents.
