Volunteers needed to place flags at Lexington Cemetery, Camp Nelson

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Volunteers are needed to help plant thousands of American flags on Veterans’ graves before Memorial Day.

Every year, volunteers gather at the Lexington Cemetery and Camp Nelson to plant flags on the grave sites of Veterans to pay tribute to those who lost their lives defending the country.

This year, organizers said flags will be placed over four days starting on May 25, to allow for distancing. According to John Tomecek, people can sign up now to volunteer.

Volunteers are asked to bring water, a screwdriver to put holes in the ground, along with gloves to help push flags into the ground.

Work times are from 9 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. May 25-28, 2021.

May is also National Military Appreciation Month.
