Victims ID’d in Whitley County Triple Murder
WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Whitley County Sheriff says his department believes several suspects were involved in the murder of a couple and their teenage son who were found strangled to death on this property off Deep Branch Road in Williamsburg.
The Sheriff’s department says they received a call just before 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon on reports of an apparent suicide at this house.
But deputies say the situation quickly changed after two more bodies were found in the grass just behind the home.
The sheriff says the victims, 36-year-old Emogene Gardener, her husband 24-year-old Christopher Bittner and Gardeners 16-year-old son all died from strangulation.
They say Gardner was found dead inside the home while her husband and son were found outside where deputies say it appeared they had been placed next to each other.
“I’ve been through a whole lot before. I worked for the state for several years and I have worked triple murders before but never a triple strangulation. Never heard of one,” said Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.
“It’s bad. It’s sad. It’s really sad. I hope you never have to go through something like this,” said Larry Lawson, a neighbor.
The sheriff says they do have several suspects of interest in this case and hope to make arrests as soon as possible.
While this is a horrific crime, the sheriff says he believes the family was targeted and doesn’t believe the community is at any greater risk.
