Vibrant market yields positive results Thursday at Keeneland September Sale
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A colt by Union Rags brought $250,000 to headline another vibrant day of selling during Thursday’s 10th session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Keeneland sold 272 yearlings today for $9,019,400, up 37.55 percent from gross sales of $6,557,100 for 255 horses posted in 2017. The average of $33,160 increased 28.96 percent from $25,714 last year, while the median of rose 46.67 percent from $15,000 to $22,000.
With three days to go in the 13-day auction, Keeneland has sold 2,259 yearlings for $368,264,600, a 21.03 percent rise from last year’s $304,265,700 for 2,261 horses. The average rose 21.14 percent from $134,571 to $163,021. The median of $85,000 increased 13.33 percent over $75,000 in 2017.
Ben Glass, agent, purchased the session-topper, who is out of the winning Speightstown mare Town Flirt, a half-sister to stakes winner Financial Modeling. The colt was consigned by KatieRich Farms.
At $200,000, the second high seller was a son of Goldencents purchased by Bill Rucker Jr. Terrazas Thoroughbreds, agent, consigned the colt, who is out of the stakes-placed Tale of the Cat mare Sinister Tale and from the family of Grade 2 winner Three Peat and Grade 3 winner Wacky Patty.
Red Wings purchased four yearlings for $295,000 to be the session’s leading buyer.
The leading consignor was Warrendale Sales, which sold 18 horses for $791,500.
