US officials seek extradition of murder suspect in Pakistan
Michigan authorities are trying to have a woman extradited from Pakistan to stand trial in her husband’s 2002 slaying.
The Lansing State Journal reports that 58-year-old Beverly McCallum married a man she met over the internet and moved to Pakistan in the years after Robert Caraballo’s death in Charlotte, about 110 miles (180 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
A sheriff’s deputy testified in November that Caraballo was pushed down stairs, beaten with a hammer and suffocated. His burned remains were found in woods in Ottawa County and went unidentified until 2015 when police received a tip.
McCallum’s 38-year-old daughter, Dineane Ducharme, and 40-year-old Christopher McMillan of Grand Rapids also are charged with homicide, conspiracy, and disinterment and mutilation of a body.
McMillan is jailed in Michigan. Ducharme is jailed in Texas, awaiting extradition to Michigan.
Ducharme and her mother are from Pasadena, Texas.
