US 27 in Lincoln County reopens after gasoline spill

WAYNESBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – A stretch of busy US 27 in Lincoln County was closed for 13-hours Friday after more than 3,000 gallons of gasoline spilled from an overturned tanker truck, according to emergency management.

The accident happened near the intersection of KY 501 in the Waynesburg community around 8:30 a.m.

Investigators say the tanker truck driver told them he swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that pulled out in front of him and the tanker truck flipped into a ditch, spilling the fuel in the ditch line.

Both drivers were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to investigators.

People who live near the crash site were told by emergency management to stay in their homes as a precaution while the spill was cleaned up.
