UPDATE: Wanted Attorney Due In Court After Being Captured

The U.S. Marshals Office is crediting collaborative police work in the arrest of John Scott Benton, a wanted attorney from Lexington.

Officials said Benton relocated to Utah around 14 months ago in an effort to hide from authorities.

They said they believe he came back to Kentucky in November because Utah law enforcement realized he was there.

He failed to appear in court in October of 2013 for allegedly stealing to bronze statues, valued at more than $50,000. Once Benton was arrested last year, the statues were returned to their owner, the Heikah Pickett Art Gallery in Versailles.

On Wednesday, Benton was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Office, with the help of Lexington Police for missing his court hearing.

Benton has been charged with receiving stolen property worth more than $10,000, failure to appear in court and for being in violation of his probation.

Benton’s case went to district court early Thursday afternoon.
