UPDATE: Victims Identified In Deadly Pulaski County Wreck

Somerset Police identified the two people who were killed and the two who were injured in a collision Friday afternoon in Pulaski County.

Investigators said witnesses told them that Travis Strope, 20, of Nancy, was driving northbound on KY 914 around 2:30 p.m. when he couldn’t stop in time for a red light, and rolled out into the intersection.

Police said Timothy Fields, 34, of Nancy, was driving a semi with an unloaded diesel trailer, west on KY 80 and entered the intersection at the same time Strope’s car rolled into it.

Investigators said Fields tried to pull his semi to the right to avoid a collision, but that Strope sped up his Chevy Cavalier to try to beat the truck through the intersection.

Police said the semi hit the passenger side of the car.

Investigators said the two passengers in Strope’s car, one in the front seat and one in the back seat, died at the scene.

They were identified as Justin Angel, 30, of Science Hill and Jody Johnson, 28, of Bronston, according to Somerset Police.

Investigators said Strope was airlifted from the scene to the hospital.

Fields was taken by ambulance to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital with back and neck pain.

The intersection was closed for a time, but has since reopened.

The Somerset Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is leading the investigation.
