UPDATE: Victim named in I-64 Fatal Accident
Lexington Police said all lanes of Interstate 64 near the Fayette-Scott County line were reopened Friday evening following a deadly accident earlier in the day.
The two vehicle collision left one man dead and four people injured, according to investigators.
The Fayette County Coroner preliminarily identified the victim as a 34-year old man from out-of-state who was in an SUV that was hit head-on by a sedan.
Investigators with the Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are trying to determine why the driver of a westbound sedan, crossed the grassy median into eastbound traffic, colliding head-on with an SUV, which flipped and came to rest on its top.
The collision happened around the 71 mile marker.
It temporarily shutdown all lanes of traffic in both directions. Paynes Depot Road was used as a detour. The closure led to long traffic backups and delays.
