UPDATE: Victim identified in deadly Versailles Road collision

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Woodford County coroner identified a man who was killed in a violent head-on collision on Versailles Road (US 60) Wednesday afternoon. The coroner says 53-year old James Couch died of blunt force trauma. Investigators say Couch was the driver of a pickup that was hit head-on by a Jeep that was exiting the Bluegrass Parkway onto eastbound Versailles Road.

Police say the driver of the Jeep crossed into westbound traffic and collided with Couch’s pickup. Couch was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was sent to the hospital. No name was released.

The accident caused a major traffic problem during the afternoon commute as traffic was diverted onto Bluegrass Parkway. At one point, westbound traffic was backed-up all the way to Lexington. The accident is still under investigation.
