UPDATE: Police say Casey County suspect committed suicide

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- State police say a suspect who prompted an intense manhunt in Casey County shot and killed himself. Investigators say 34-year-old Matthew Dale Grider committed suicide in a field in Boyle County.

Authorities started looking for Grider Wednesday after he reportedly exchanged gunfire with a task force officer, then ran off. State police say the officer was trying to serve a warrant on Grider when it happened. The officer was not hurt in the gunfire.

Investigators say they received a tip Thursday that Grider was seen near Curtis Road in Boyle County. State police say troopers, deputies and a K9 unit tracked Curtis to a barn in a field. According to investigators, Grider was spotted as he ran out of the back of the barn. State police say after a lengthy pursuit, Grider pulled a gun out and shot himself.

State police are reportedly handling the death investigation.
