UPDATE: Police Identify Suspect Whose Arrest Impacted A School And Traffic

Lexington Police identified a suspect who was at the center of a Thursday afternoon arrest that led to a nearby middle school being placed on heightened alert and a section of Winburn Drive was blocked off.

Police said they went to serve an arrest warrant for Duquion Baxter, 18, of Lexington at an apartment on Winburn Drive.

Police said when he didn’t immediately answer the door, the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was called to the scene since Baxter was wanted in connection to a shooting and was considered dangerous.

A section of Winburn Drive was blocked-off, people in the immediate area weren’t allowed to come or go in the neighborhood and nearby Winburn Middle School was placed on heightened alert, according to police.

Investigators said after about 45-minutes, Baxter gave himself up peacefully and without incident.  He was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Police said Baxter was accused of shooting a man in the hand on East Sixth Street on November 6, 2014.

Investigators said Baxter was also wanted in connection to a robbery at a Game Stop store on New Circle Road on September 24, 2014.

In that case, police said three men went into the Game Stop armed with weapons and got away with cash from a store employee and customer.
