UPDATE: NTSB investigating Georgetown train crash

GEORGETOWN , Ky. (WTVQ) – The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to be on the scene of a crash involving two trains in Georgetown.

Two Norfolk Southern Railroad trains collided head-on Sunday at around 11:15 p.m. near the Scott-Fayette County line.

The accident caused 13 rail cars to derail and forced the evacuation of the dozens of people living on Lisle Road in Georgetown.

Norfolk Southern Railroad says four train crew employees – two from each train – were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.

Three have been released. One employee is still being evaluated, according to the railroad.

Crews are working to remove the train cars from the track.

They are also in the process of cleaning up a spill from one of the rail cars that was hauling nut oil.

Norfolk Southern Railroad, the Federal Railroad Administration and the National Transportation Safety board are investigating the accident.
