UPDATE: Man wanted for shooting nine-year-old back in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, ky. (WTVQ) – A man accused of firing into a vehicle in Lexington and leaving a child seriously injured is back in the state.

ABC 36 has learned that the initial encounter that led to that shooting all started with a simple request that ultimately left a nine-year-old boy critically injured.

According to court documents, on the day of the shooting, the alleged suspect Alberto  Contreras parked his car near a dumpster where the victim’s mother, Tara Murillo worked.

Documents say Murillo told police she asked Contereras to move his vehicle, a Nissan Maxima. She says there was no incident at that time.

The documents also say that some time later a witness told police that they spotted that same car following Murillo’s car in which her son was a passenger.

The witness told police that as Murillo drove towards New Circle Road on Russell Cave Road, Contreras fired several shots at Murillo’s vehicle. The nine-year-old boy was in the back seat and was struck in the neck.

Court documents revealed that in an interview with investigators, Contreras identified the Nissan Maxima as his vehicle, but denied that he was there when the shooting happened.

The documents say detectives found evidence in his car that were consistent with the shooting.

Contreras was found and arrested in West Virginia and extradicted back to Kentucky.

He is charged with first degree assault and will appear in court Monday morning.

At last check, the victim is in critical condition at University of Kentucky Hospital.

There is also a Go Fund Me account set for the young boy. Details on that account can be found here.
