UPDATE: Man hit by police cruiser identified

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Investigators say a man who was hit by a police cruiser went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Identified by LPD as 44-year-old David Schlechty, the man is reportedly still being charged for the 2nd-degree Disorderly Conduct which led to his initial arrest.

According to police, the collision involving the cruiser and the Family Dollar store on Southland Drive was an accident.
Investigators say an officer had just handcuffed a man on a charge of disorderly conduct. They say the officer sat the suspect down outside of Family Dollar, and was about to drive up with the police car, when the suspect stood and started acting up.

Investigators say the officer left the car, but accidentally left it in gear. And when he realized it and tried to hit the brake, he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead. The collision reconstruction unit was called to the scene to investigate.
