UPDATE: Lexington man identified as drowning victim

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Franklin County Coroner’s Office say a Lexington man died in a kayaking accident in Frankfort Monday.

The coroner says 35-year-old Matthew Hughes drowned on Elkhorn Creek while kayaking with a friend.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes and his friend got too close to the dam and Hughes was pulled under.

His friend was rescued.

Hughes’ body was later found near the end of Colston Lane.

The coroner says the investigation into the drowning is ongoing.
