UPDATE: KY Crushes TN In 2014 ‘Big Blue Crush’
The contest ended Friday in Lexington.
Kentucky Blood Center said Kentucky had 3,169 units to Tennessee’s 2,760 units.
Solid Blue fans came from behind after a weather setback kept donors away.
KBC Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment Martha Osborne said, "What a great week! Although it started off slow with a couple of snowed out blood drives, the Big Blue Nation really warmed up to the competition as the week continued. Generous Kentucky blood donors have once again stepped up to provide blood for Kentucky patients during the upcoming holidays.
The win meant that Kentucky led the (overall) competition against Tennessee and Medic Regional Blood Center in Knoxville 14 to 12 with one tie.
Everyone who gave at Kentucky Blood Center received a long-sleeve t-shirt, and a chance to win tickets to the Kentucky-Louisville football game.
But the real winners were the patients in both cities who relied on the donated blood.
